Planning a Pamukkale and Salda Lake day trip from Alanya in November? Learn how the long day works, what to wear on the travertines and what to pack.
Pamukkale is one of those places you have seen in photos long before you arrive: white terraces of travertine running down a hillside, with shallow pools of blue water. Add Salda Lake, often called the Maldives of Turkey, and you have one of the most memorable inland days you can take from the coast. Our Pamukkale and Salda Lake Day Trip from Alanya combines both, and November is a surprisingly good month to go.
Why go in November?
In summer the white terraces reflect the sun so strongly that the heat can be tiring. In late autumn the light is softer, the crowds are smaller and walking up through the ruins of Hierapolis is far more comfortable. The trade-off is the temperature: Pamukkale lies inland, so mornings and evenings are noticeably cooler than in Alanya.
How the day works
This is a long day. Pamukkale is several hours by road from Alanya, so expect an early pick-up from your hotel and a late return. The route passes through the Taurus Mountains and the lake district, which makes the drive itself part of the experience.
- Salda Lake: turquoise water and bright white shores. In November it is a place for photos and a short walk rather than a swim.
- Pamukkale travertines: you walk barefoot on the terraces to protect them, so the warm spring water in the channels feels very welcome on a cool day.
- Hierapolis: the ancient city above the terraces, with its theatre, necropolis and long colonnaded street.
What to wear and pack
- Layers: a light jacket or fleece for the morning and the mountain stops.
- Comfortable shoes for Hierapolis, plus a small bag to carry them on the travertines.
- A small towel to dry your feet, and a swimsuit if you plan to visit the thermal Antique Pool.
- Sunglasses: even in autumn the white rock is dazzling.
Good to know
Entry to the Antique Pool is paid separately on site. For the exact pick-up time, what the meals include and the current price, please check the tour booking page, as these details can change during the season. If you love nature and history and don't mind an early start, this is one of the most rewarding excursions you can book from Alanya this autumn.
