Tandem Paragliding in Alanya: A First-Timer's Guide for Autumn

Never flown before? See how a tandem paragliding flight over Alanya works, what to wear in autumn, how the weather affects it and what to check when booking.

From the beach, the paragliders drifting above Alanya look like slow, colourful dots against the Taurus Mountains. Many visitors watch them for days before deciding to try it themselves. The good news is that you do not need any experience: on a tandem flight a licensed pilot flies the wing, and your only job is to enjoy the view. Autumn is also a lovely time to go, with softer light and clear air on many days.

How the experience works

The day starts with pickup from your hotel, followed by the drive up to the take-off hill, with forest and sea views along the way. There you meet your pilot, who explains the basics, checks your clothing and fits you with a helmet and harness. You also practise the few running steps needed for take-off and landing, and that is all the training a passenger needs.

In the air

Depending on the weather, you take off from 400 or 700 metres and glide over Alanya for about 15 minutes. Below you are the castle peninsula, the long curve of the bay and the turquoise water. Most people are surprised by how calm it feels once the wing has lifted them off the hill. The flight ends with a landing on the famous Cleopatra Beach, where the ground team is waiting for you.

What to wear in autumn

It can be warm on the beach and noticeably cooler up on the hill, so dress in layers:

  • Closed trainers with good grip, never sandals or flip-flops.
  • Comfortable clothes you can run a few steps in.
  • A light windbreaker, which you will be glad of on an autumn morning.
  • Sunglasses, because the sun stays bright over the sea.

Weather and planning

Paragliding depends on wind and weather, and late autumn brings the occasional rainy day. The team decides on the take-off height and on whether it is safe to fly at all, so a change of plan is always possible. Our tip is to book your flight early in your holiday, which leaves you spare days if conditions are not right.

Before you book

Weight and age limits apply, so ask about them if you are unsure. Alcohol is not allowed before the flight. The take-off site entrance fee and the flight photos and video are not part of the basic package. You will find the current price and all the details on the Alanya Paragliding tour page, and your exact pickup time is sent after booking.
